How to Hand Wash a Tesla Cybertruck

Stainless is not clear-coated paint — mild soap, soft microfiber, dry promptly. Orange/brown spots are iron contamination, not structural rust (Tesla).

Watch out

  • Shade; cool panels (Tesla: do not wash in direct sunlight)
  • Car Wash Mode; not charging; never high-velocity spray at charge port while charging
  • Mild pH-neutral shampoo only — no acidic / highly alkaline cleaners
  • Soft microfiber — Tesla: avoid tight-napped mitts
  • Pressure washer ≥12" (30 cm) off, nozzle moving; don’t aim at seals, modules, cameras
  • No chemical wheel cleaners / pre-wash products (Tesla caution)
  • No hydrophobic treatment on the front windshield
  • Same-day: bird droppings, bugs, tree resin, tar, road salt, industrial fallout

Steps (summary)

  1. Setup: Shade, unplug, Car Wash Mode, separate wheel gear from stainless towels
  2. Wheels: Cool wheels; shampoo only — no chemical wheel cleaners
  3. Pre-rinse: Flush grit; wells and seams; after salt wash underside
  4. Foam (optional): Mild shampoo foam only — don’t let it dry
  5. Contact wash: Soft MF towels / sponge; light pressure; clean→dirty panels
  6. Rinse then optional blow trapped water
  7. Dry thoroughly with clean MF — water spots show hard on bare stainless
  8. Glass & cameras: automotive glass cleaner; cameras water + MF only

Iron / orange spots (occasional)

Tesla DIY path: IPA first → if needed CitriSurf® 77 or equivalent citric → ~3 min dwell → blue Scotch-Brite® Non-Scratch only → rinse/dry. Citric may shift color locally — do full panels for uniformity. Not every wash.
